Comic Book Biography

As a pet project I'm filling up a Moleskine with my biography (from the front to the middle) and Senor Fun's (from the back to the middle). Mostly it's something fun to do in my spare time, since I don't get a chance to make comics or use only gray scale in my other work.

These are only a few pages from my section, but if you squint really hard you may be able to read the obscured page (but don't do it, because that would be cheating & cheating is oh-so-very-wrong).

Sin Monster

I started a new quarter at SCAD, which luckily means that I'll be able to scan and post more art with ease! Oh, sweet Epson scanners.

This little fellow is a sketch for my first Poster Design project (final sketch on the left, cropped color study on the right). The subject we're working off is sin, and Little Monstre here is sin's cuddly physical embodiment. When I finish the posters I'll definitely be posting them up here, as well as a ton of auto-biographical comics that I did over my winter break. So, yes. Things are good.

Senor Fun!

A little back story for those of you who aren't familiar with Senor Fun:
Senor Fun is an imaginary friend that I created during my junior year at SCAD while sleep deprived and freaked out about finals. Since then, he's popped up in a lot of my sketchbooks, comics, paintings, and even my Munny project. He's pretty much the best imaginary friend a girl can have. [For more information on Senor Fun, click the first picture! P.S. There's a mistake in it: it's supposed to say "favorite drink: beer, favorite food: beer"]

Quick Update

Made some quick changes to the blog layout, which I hope everyone likes.
(Ooooh, color changes...)

Also the MASS Collective blog is officially up, although there is very little actually posted there currently. For those who aren't in the know MASS is the brainchild of myself, Mr. Carter, and a couple other close friends. It is a proposed, multidisciplinary studio space & non-profit organization which we hope to have up and running my next summer. It will include musicians, artists, and scientists of all varieties and house all the materials and equipment necessary to create whatever our crazy little minds think up.

I'll keep this blog updated on any important MASS events and what have you in the coming months as the ball gets rolling, so to speak.

Fact: I am, in fact, winking. My eye is not bruised over and/or missing. I may sometimes wish I was Odin, but I'm not going as far as removing my own eyeball. P.S. You'll probably want to click on the picture so you can read it better.

I'm currently working on a children's book as well as an illustrated tutorial for school. Assuming that both (or either one) of those come out looking snazzy, I will post them here for the world to see!

For anyone interested, my work is currently being displayed at Java Monkey in Decatur, GA. As a super-awesome bonus, my good friend (and an excellent painter) Ruby Franklin's work is being displayed, too. [Note: you can find a link to Ruby's website at the top of my blog, under the header]

There are plenty of pieces that have been posted on this blog, as well as new ones never seen here. It will be up until the end of July, so you don't have much time left if you'd like to take a look!

Ruby's work is hanging near the front entrance, and you can find mine at the cash register & wine bar. I'll try to get some decent photographs uploaded here before they're taken down, but you'll want to see it for yourself!

I participated in Art Sign the Beltline with a couple of friends to raise awareness about the Beltline Project in Atlanta on June 28. It was hosted by WonderRoot and took place at the Eyedrum. The basic premise was to invite artists to paint over 100 wooden boards that would later be hung up where the Beltline will hopefully run. Despite being very hot and sweaty, it was a lot of fun!

For this project we had to portray a sport using the CF Payne technique.
I especially enjoyed using the ink, and drawing the tattoos for this painting.
I may just have to get that octopus-skull-flower tattoo.

This project was supposed to be based around celebrities,
in the style of old Byzantine icons.
I chose Courtney Love and Francis Bean Cobain.

We were supposed to create an image of a celebrity
in an old, distressed, poster style.

This is a portrait of my sister, Ansley.
I made the contour line drawing for this work at SCAD's 24-Hour Comic Marathon.
I finished it later by filling in the desired areas with watercolour and gouache using a wet on wet technique.
